As part of the overall research project Crafting Futures’ focus on the transmission of craft practices in Flanders, the goal of Textile Wanders is to reconnect diasporic communities with heritage textiles in museum archives, fostering dialogue around cultural and historical objects. By centering on lived experiences and collaborative storytelling, we aim to initiate dialogue and collaboration, in order to transform static collections into living narratives of migration and craft.

As part of the Action Research part of the project, the Textile Wanders program aims to connect Belgium-based diasporic craftspeople with national museums and craft institutions. We create dedicated forums to ‘open up the archive’, addressing the challenges and possibilities of sustaining a craft in a new country. As part of this program, five groups will embark on visits to various locations across Belgium. A dedicated report will be produced following each visit to document the outcomes.

The project is developed by Pierre-Antoine Vettorello (Sint Lucas, Antwerp) in collaboration with Doek, Bildy Market and Mwinda Kitoko.
